Mississippi native appears on “Millionaire Matchmaker” tonight

lutinA Mississippi native turned dating coach will be looking for love on Bravo!’s “Millionaire Matchmaker” tonight at 9 p.m.

Marks native Angela McArthur Lutin, a divorced, single mother who blogs about the South Florida dating scene, owns a business called Essentially Angela Inc. Through it, she coaches others, helping them get back on the dating scene.

But tonight, the tables will be turned when “Millionaire Matchmaker” star Patti Stanger offers Lutin dating advice, and Lutin brings along her ex-husband, Greg, to help find her perfect match.

“Working with Bravo! gave me the opportunity to put myself on the line and ultimately step outside of my comfort zone for a chance to find love,” said Lutin. “Sometimes, even an expert needs an outsider’s perspective, and working with Patti forced me to take the harsh advice I so often give to others.”

During the week, Angela was set up with three prospects and had to choose one for her master date.

Lutin, 38, grew up on Main Street in Marks where five generations of her family had lived. She worked in the family’s restaurant business until attending Delta State University on a full scholarship and graduating early at age 19.

Lutin initially thought she’d study English, but chose business instead. After graduating, she worked in the banking industry in Tupelo before moving to Boca Raton to continue her career and build a life. She married at 24, had a son at 25, and worked in the banking industry almost 15 years until she divorced at 34.

Today, she writes a column called The Naked Truth for Boca Magazine and has just begun to explore the world of reality television.

Self-described as a “Sex in the Suburbs, if Carrie (Bradshaw) had kids, blogger,” Lutin writes about love, romance and relationships.

She has also contributed to The Huffington Post, and Shape and Think magazines.

“As I was writing for different outlets, I got something about ‘Millionaire Matchmaker’ casting,” she said in an earlier interview. “They were looking for divorced couples. My ex-husband and I are very close. He’s a big part of the show and my life. What I do now is based on how we live our life and parent together. We’re really the modern family.”

After Lutin began chronicling her dating experiences on essentiallyangela.com, reality television began to notice.

She appeared on two MTV shows. MTV producers asked her to be a dating coach for a 28-year-old Tampa girl looking for her first boyfriend on “Made.” That led to another MTV gig on “True Life” as a dating coach, where she helped a boy with social anxiety. Both shows have already aired.

“Millionaire Matchmaker” is her latest reality adventure, but Lutin hopes to eventually pitch her own reality show about dating and relationships.

“The divorce rate is 50 percent in this country,” she said. “A lot of people find themselves in the situation I was in. You marry young, divorce, and I was still vibrant. I think I serve as a good role model for that.

“I’m a romantic at heart, and I want to help people find love. Everybody deserves love. I still haven’t found it for myself. I’m too busy finding it for everyone else.”
